About the Organ

The organ in St. John's Church was renovated and expanded as part of a major building project in 2000. Work was done by Michael Hart and Bard Wickkiser and the staff of the Di Gennaro-Hart Organ Company of Washington, D.C. Learn more.

The Music Fund

The Music Fund supports expenses outside St. John’s yearly music budget: hiring additional instrumentalists and singers for worship, sponsoring concerts, purchasing miscellaneous items such as music stands and choir folders, and seeding initiatives such as our new Second Sunday Evensong. You can donate either online or by check payable to St. John’s Church with “Music Fund” on the memo line. Thank you for your support of the Music Fund.

Piano Concert

Saturday, October 25 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm

Please join us for a free concert celebrating our newly rebuilt Murphy Sanctuary Steinway piano, featuring Christopher Schmitt, pianist of “The President’s Own” Chamber Orchestra, and Zino Bogachek, violinist in the National Opera Orchestra. In the spirit of spooky season, the program serves up devilishly delectable selections from Paganini, Prokofiev, Bolcolm and Chausson. Light reception to follow in Shears Hall. A lovely Saturday evening “appetizer!”

Second Sunday Evensong

Sunday, November 9 at 5:00 pm

Join us for this monthly offering, led by an ensemble of twelve professional choristers. The service will feature music of Michael Sitton, Richard Ayleward, Harold Friedell, and Johannes Brahms. Choral Evensong, a contemplative liturgy fused from the ancient offices of Vespers and Compline, is one of the treasures of the Anglican tradition. At this service, the congregation participates mostly by allowing the clergy and choir to speak and sing on its behalf. Many find this frees them, in a busy world, to offer to God their own thoughts and prayers. A reception with light refreshments follows in Shears Hall. Sponsored by the Music Fund.
