Did you think we mistook you for a member of the choir?
No, we’re not confused about choir membership. We are thinking of another kind of music: the powerful chorus we form as a community serving God and our neighbors. The chorus formed by all our “voices” builds hope, culture, and community.
We hear that “music” every month when we make sandwiches for Martha’s Table. It’s there when we’re serving alongside our partners in the Dominican Republic and every time the Caring Close Knit Crafters gather for fellowship. It’s loud and clear when we recite our vows again at every baptism and when we offer each other peace before the Eucharist.
We enlarge that chorus every time the Boy Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous, and other community groups meet in our building. Our chorus includes everyone in the world we can possibly touch with God’s generous love.
Some of our favorite music is the kind we make together as a congregation committed to Christ and to each other. We are there for each other in celebration and in grief. It’s a beautiful chorus of generosity, supporting each other, our neighborhood, and God’s wider world.
In the weeks ahead, our “Chorus of Generosity” stewardship team will enlist others in sharing how you can invest in this extraordinary community of song and service. Our goal of $1.15 million will help us fully fund the rising costs of our new and ongoing ministries. We need everyone in our chorus to pledge their support for our ministries in 2026.
Starting this fall, on the 3rd Sunday of every month we are launching Supper Church – an opportunity to worship around tables over a shared meal. You’ll want to join us as we begin to offer Choral Evensong on the 2nd Sunday of the month, when that Chorus of Generosity is actually expressed in music. Regular Adult Forums and Wednesday Bible Study continue, with the addition this fall of the parishioner-led Fourth Sunday Study — Women in the Bible. These are just some of the ways we are adding to our St John’s chorus in the coming year.
For the past two years, your generous gifts have helped us meet our pledge goals, and we need your help again — we need your “voice” — to make the coming year effective and meaningful. We also invite you to prayerfully consider increasing your pledge to support our growing ministries.
On Sunday, November 23 we'll celebrate our Chorus of Generosity. Mark your calendars — and start thinking about your favorite songs, and how you’ll use them to inspire generosity in the coming year.
Thank you for lifting up your voice and joining our chorus, and most of all, for making the melodies of faith part of your life and mine — for the love of God and our neighbors.
Grace and Peace,
The Stewardship Committee
