We know the world needs more Abundant Life!

And isn’t that what happens when we live with compassion? Compassion is the kind of mutual care evoked by Jesus’ call to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” It means seeing things from someone else’s point of view, experiencing their struggles. And then doing something about it.

At St. John’s, this kind of compassion is at the heart of everything we seek to do. When we’re making sandwiches for others, that’s compassion in action. When we’re in the Dominican Republic sharing our faith and resources, that’s compassion in action. When we gather in worship and pray for one another every week, that’s compassion, too.

That compassion brings life, justice, and peace to the world. And you’re doing it—we’re doing it, together, every day, as we live trying to follow Jesus in McLean, Virginia.

What would it look like if we shared the Abundant Life we have here at St. John’s more generously? What could we do to achieve God’s dream for the world if we expressed that compassion more and more?

Last year, we asked for a stretch so we could fully staff our St. John’s leadership. You did it. In fact, in some ways, we did more together than ever before. Let’s use this season to take a long look at the work we do together to create Abundant Life for all. Let’s tell and listen to stories of compassion from each other.

And then, on Sunday, November 19, let’s make our 2024 pledge together. It’s your St. John’s family, too.
