Drive of the Month
Month-long drives to collect needed items for local social service groups are a long tradition at St. John’s. Recipient groups are identified by the Missions Committee or suggested by parishoners. Items collected might be school supplies for needy students; clothing and toiletries for our youth to take on their annual NYC mission trip; cellphones to help victims of abuse; Christmas stockings for the Salvation Army. These drives are a way for parishioners to share gifts in kind with those who can benefit from extra support. Learn more.
All hands, large and small, are welcome at this monthly activity to help feed the hungry. On the fourth Sunday of each month, volunteers prepare the ingredients, and make, bag, box up and deliver more than 1,200 sandwiches to Martha’s Table in Washington, D.C. This monthly event, which was started almost thirty years ago, brings together at the sandwich tables as many as fifty St. John’s parishioners in a project of service to the hungry. Visit the Martha's Table website. Dates to volunteer are posted here.

Offerings to Regional Organizations
Each year, the Missions Committee designates organizations to receive parishioners’ birthday and anniversary offerings. Often these organizations are local and address homelessness, youth education, and more recently, needs of recent veterans. Through these offerings, the Missions Committee hopes to reflect and acknowledge the concerns and commitments of parishioners.
The offerings, traditionally given during Sunday services in envelopes sent the week before, may be made at any time by check or online. For questions or to suggest possible recipients in 2019, contact Missions Committee Chair, Jayne Swanson through the Parish Office at 703-356-4902.
2018 Birthday and Anniversary Offerings will be shared among the following organizations, identified by the Missions Committee and parishioners:
