Shrine Mont Parish Weekend:
Hang Ten at Shrine Mont
in the Shenandoah Valley!

June 3 – 5, 2011

The two churches of the Langley Parish, St. Francis Church in Great Falls and St. John’s Church in McLean, get together every year on the first weekend after Memorial Day for a retreat. We head to Shrine Mont Camp and Conference Center, the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia Retreat Center located in Orkney Springs, Virginia, two hours west into the Shenandoah Valley. It’s a great get away for all ages, and there is truly something for everyone!

The weekend will start with a family friendly Happy Hour on the porch as we check in and then head up to dinner in the dining hall. Later activities include s’mores by the bonfire and a family Beach Party!

Saturday is chock full of fun activities—crafts, fishing, hiking, golf, tennis, softball, swimming and Fun Run. Quieter moments may have you rocking on the front porch as you answer the surfing/beach trivia quiz or joining our clergy in the labyrinth meditation. Saturday afternoon includes a hayride and an ice-cream social before we follow the volunteer Shrine Mont Band up the hill in our surfer attire. (There will be prizes for best costumes!) Another porch mixer precedes dinner and our popular Variety Show, which is open to all ages and abilities. We’ve made some changes to this year’s show to allow more people to participate. Performers may sign up for one solo and one group act of up to three minutes each. So, start thinking of an act that showcases your talent! The evening ends with desserts on the porch.

The Sunday morning worship service is held in the outdoor Shrine of the Transfiguration, our Diocesan cathedral. Please contact the Rector if a family member is interested in being baptized at Shrine Mont.

Availability and room assignments are on a first come, first served basis, so please complete yours today! Your two night stay includes all meals from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch.

We are looking for a number of volunteers, including someone to coordinate desserts on Saturday night, help with crafts for the children, and act as Co-Chairs who will Chair the event next year. Also, all musicians are welcome to participate in the Shrine Mont Band - the only requirement is to bring an instrument, (any instrument!), and showing up. This year will feature a strings band.

Come learn why Shrine Mont’s motto is:
“To provide a place apart for rest, devotion, fellowship, learning and education, where all may grow in the grace of God.”
