Take a Walk to Make a Difference

Saturday, November 11
Gather at 10:00 am at the Langley Swim & Tennis Club
728 Live Oak Drive, McLean 22101

Please join us in a Parish Walk at Scott’s Run Nature Preserve in support of Hurricane Relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Please download the sponsorship form HERE. Ask friends, neighbors and relatives to sponsor you by-the-mile and turn all funds collected in to St. John’s.  Any amount will be welcomed and will go directly to recovery efforts via the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund. While the walk will take place in Scott’s Run (no roads to cross), all children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather. Holy Land Pilgrimage Open House

Sunday, November 12

The Reverend Dr. Susan Lukens, Associate Dean of St. George’s College in Jerusalem, will be at St. John’s on November 12 and along with the Reverend Kristine Johnson will host a pilgrimage open house in Matthews Library between the morning services. Whether you have signed up for the pilgrimage or not (a few spots remain!), please stop by to learn more about the course and about other St. George’s College offerings. Learn more.


Mom's Morning

Wednesday, November 15

Moms of St. John's: Whether you have just 10 minutes or a full hour, we invite you to join in this spiritual gathering of support, conversation, and friendship, starting around 9:00 am one Wednesday each month. Let this group be your haven from the daily chaos of motherhood. Come for as little or as long as you’d like. Little ones are welcome. Toys and good coffee will be provided. 20s&30s ”Friendsgiving”

Saturday, November 18

The St. John’s 20s&30s group will be hosting its annual Friendsgiving on Saturday, November 18 at 5:00 pm at a private home in Del Ray. ”Friendsgiving” is a potluck Thanksgiving style dinner shared among friends. Christmas Pageant Sign-Ups

Sunday, November 19

Your child must be in Church School that day to receive a speaking role. Before signing up, please be sure you will be available for BOTH the rehearsal on Saturday, December 9 (8:45–11:45 am) and the actual pageant on Sunday, December 10 (4:00 pm).


Advent Adventure I

Sunday, November 26 following the 9:00 am service
No Church School this day. Advent wreath making - $15 per family.

This activity for adults and children is planned to help incorporate Advent devotions into our daily lives.


22nd Annual SAGES Christmas Luncheon

Friday, December 1 at 11:30 in Shears Hall

Christmas 1995 the St. John’s SAGES (those in the congregation of an age to be retired) gathered for their first Christmas Luncheon. This event has become a yearly tradition and this year will be our 22nd celebration and we look forward to welcoming all SAGES as we celebrate the joyous Christmas season. Once again we will fill the Christmas stocking for SHARE, and there will be an opportunity to purchase Christmas greens and plants prior to the Parish Greens Sale on Saturday, December 2.


15th Annual Parish Greens Sale

Saturday, December 2 from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm
Wreaths, Roping and more!

There will be wreaths in three sizes, 16,” 20,” and 24.” The wreaths are round and the 24 inch wreaths are both round and square. There will be mixed roping and white pine roping, potted flowering plants, gifts, baskets with fresh greens, and other holiday decorating items. Please mark your calendar and support this worthy event. All proceeds will go to Alternative House and Homestretch, local charities supporting women and children. Questions? Advent Quiet Afternoon

Join the Reverend Dr. Bill Roberts, Church Music Professor at Virginia Theological Seminary, and his partner David Hoover, a lisenced clinical social worker and professional spiritual director, for an afternoon of exploring Advent spirituality through icons and music. Come and find some silence in the hustle and bustle leading up to Christmas.
